A Busy Girl’s Guide to Skincare: Treatments to make your daily regimen quick and low maintenance

We’re completely back to our regular schedules whether it’s at work or our personal lives. This article is for the busy woman who doesn’t have time to go through skincare trends and that 10-step routine. Listed are some popular non- invasive procedures with long- lasting effects. Most of these treatments can be done on a monthly basis  to make your daily skincare simple and low- maintenance. We’ve made it easy by breaking it down according to your skin type and we added a few skincare tips from our board- certified Dermatologists.

1. Normal Skin

This type of skin is not too oily or not too dry. It has balanced pH levels and sebum production. Normal skin has a radiant complexion and no severe sensitivity. A person with normal skin has fine pores and without blemishes.

Skincare Tips for Normal Skin:

  • Stay hydrated. Drink 2.7 liters of water every day, that’s about 11 glasses. This prevents your skin from drying up and getting flaky.

  • Moisturize to keep the skin moist. It also avoids the skin from producing too much sebum.

  • Wear sunscreen. Sun exposure can dry up the skin which leads to wrinkles and dark patches. Use an oil-free sunscreen to prevent the skin pores from clogging. At least SPF 30 and broad spectrum are the 2 important things you should be looking for in the label. Bonus tip: tinted sunscreens block blue light from gadgets and are more effective in preventing pigmentation.

  • Remove your makeup as it can clog the pores that lead to breakouts. Prevent this by removing your makeup before going to bed. This tip applies in skincare for different skin types as well.

  • Always wash your face before sleeping at night. Bacteria and dirt from the outside can clog the pores.

Treatments you can do:

  • Quanta System Laser Skin Rejuvenation – this treatment stimulates the skin to allow regeneration without the need for multiple anti-aging creams. Laser skin rejuvenation can improve  the appearance of pores and lessen the visibility of skin imperfections by stimulating collagen production. Regular treatments can help prevent premature aging caused by UV exposure or an unhealthy lifestyle. This is a suitable procedure for different skin types as well. The overall effect in normal skin types: that glowing “K drama skin” that most of our patients request.

  • Most of the treatments in- clinic can be done if you have a normal skin type. If you have seasonal breakouts of dry or oily skin read up for more.

2. Oily Skin and Acne- Prone Skin

This skin type has an excess oil secretion. It is typically sweaty, shiny, and more prone to pimples, blackheads, redness, blemishes, and enlarged pores. Oily skin is likely to have acne breakouts.

Skincare Tips for Oily Skin:

  • Wash your face twice a day to remove dirt and bacteria that can clog your pores. Cleaning the face is the best practice in skincare for different skin types. But for those with oily skin, do not overwash because it can take away essential oils from the skin. Bonus tip: Look for a cleanser that has niacinamide or salicylic acid.

  • Select a lotion-based, lightweight moisturizer that is good for oily skin types. You can skip moisturizer if you’re finding your skin too oily.

  • Avoid touching your face continuously. Never pop or pick any pimples to prevent spreading and scarring.

  • Know the right skin treatments for oily skin.

    • Laser Carbon Peel – a skin treatment that uses minute carbon particles to treat a wide array of skin conditions common among people with oily skin such as blackheads, enlarged pores, facial acne, and body acne, among others.

If you are looking for a safe and effective procedure for oily skin, this treatment allows the absorption of oil and contaminants from deep within the pores. It also exfoliates the skin to eliminate dead skin cells. it helps in the management of pimples by reducing bacteria-causing acne, and decongests build-up in the pores.

  • Fractional CO2 Laser - a skin treatment used to minimize the appearance of acne scars, deep wrinkles, and other skin irregularities. This non-invasive procedure uses a laser, specially made of carbon dioxide, to remove the outer layers of damaged skin which stimulate collagen production for firmer, healthy, and younger-looking skin.

3. Dry Skin

Dry skin has a rough and dull complexion and produces less oil. The skin can peel, crack, or become irritated, itchy, or inflamed. It can be scaly, particularly on the backs of your arms, hands, and legs. It has more visible lines around the eyes and mouth. This type has less elastic skin.

Skincare Tips for Dry Skin:

  • Use a mild and moisturizing, soap-free cleanser. Skip active ingredients that cause more dryness like salicylic acid, high concentration of AHAs and even niacinamide.

  • Avoid taking long showers or hot showers. They can strip your skin of its natural oils that can cause dryness.

  • Pat your skin gently while drying yourself up after a bath. Do not scrub while taking a shower or drying. Drink lots of water every day. This will keep your skin hydrated and look more plump.

  • Try Deep Skin Hydration Using Restylane Boosters to hydrate and naturally smoothen the skin from the inside. This provides lasting moisture that makes the face softer, smoother, and more youthful. Restylane treatment involves a series of microinjections that go beyond the surface of the skin, bringing deep hydration. Recommended for those who have tried most moisturizers and still find their skin extremely dry.

  • Consider laser skin treatments to renew dry, rough, wrinkly and dull skin:

    • Laser Peel. This is an effective treatment to rejuvenate skin with minimal-to-zero downtime. It affects deep skin layers and stimulates collagen production which contributes to youthful-looking skin that is firm, plump, and with minimized fine lines and wrinkles.

    • Laser Skin Rejuvenation – this treatment improves your skin tone and texture. If you are in search of skincare for different skin types that can eliminate skin aging signs like wrinkles and fine lines, then this is the one for you. A full-face treatment can be finished only within 10 to 20 minutes and will depend on the type of laser technique used.

    • Fractional CO2 Laser – this is often done by applying a local anesthetic cream to the affected area 30 to 45 minutes before the procedure which lasts for only 15 to 20 minutes. This is commonly used to treat acne scars but can also treat a wide range of skin problems such as fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Sensitive Skin

You have sensitive skin if your skin reddens when you eat spicy food or negatively reacts to new products that you tried on your skin. Other reactions include itching, burning, or dryness.

Skincare Tips for Sensitive Skin:

  • Avoid taking hot showers. They can make your sensitive skin red and irritated by stripping off the necessary oils.

  • Buy only a mild cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Avoid experimenting on mutliple over the counter beauty regimens. Conduct a patch test before using hypoallergenic products since you have sensitive skin. Test a product first on your inner forearm  then wait for one day after the patch test. If your skin does not react to it, then go ahead and use it on your face. You can always do a patch test as part of skincare for different skin types.

  • Sensitive skin can be a manifestation of other conditions like Rosacea, Atopic Dermatitis and other eczemas. Consult our board- certified Dermatologists before booking a procedure to see if a treatment is right for you.

5. Combination Skin

This skin type is a mix of oily and dry complexion. The T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin) is oily while the cheeks are dry. The pores appear larger than normal because they are more open.

Skincare Tips for Combination Skin:

  • Use a gentle cleanser. The pores in your T-zone are bigger than the rest of your face if you have a combination skin. Using harsh products may clog your pores.

  • Exfoliate gently and not every day. This can remove essential oils from the skin. Do not scrub too hard when you exfoliate as this can damage your skin.

  • Follow two skincare routines. Use different products for your T-zone and the rest of your face. Products that are good for your dry skin may not be gentle on oily skin. Follow a separate beauty regimen since you have to maintain skincare for different skin types.

  • Wear sunscreen.  Make it essential in your skincare routine. Buy an oil-free sunscreen if you have combination skin.

  • Most of the treatments for dry and oily skin listed above can be tolerated by patients with combination skin but this skin type can sometimes be tricky, it’s best to consult one of our board- certified Dermatologists so he/she can customize a treatment plan according to your needs.
